Here are some common scenarios you may encounter when learning to use RFB&D's AudioPlus digitally recorded textbooks on CD with the Scholar.
I've turned the Scholar on, and I cannot hear anything!
The Scholar is not equipped with internal speakers so you must use headphones or plug-in external speakers. Make sure the headphones are plugged into the headphone jack located on the right side of the machine.
If using batteries, check the battery compartment to make sure the batteries are inserted correctly and have power.
If using a wall adapter, make sure the wall adapter is plugged in correctly.
If you have done everything above and still require further assistance, please call RFB&D product support at 800-221-4792.
I don't have/forgot/lost my PIN.
If you are a current RFB&D member and you don't have a PIN, please call member services at 800-221-4792 for assistance. You will be asked for your Member ID Number.
I entered my PIN incorrectly.
If you incorrectly enter the PIN you have a maximum of 3 tries before you have to reinsert the CD.
You can also exit the PIN entry by pressing the PLAY/STOP button until you hear the exit sound.
I cannot find the fast forward and rewind functions.
The Scholar does not have the ability to fast forward or rewind through an audiobook. Please navigate by page or phrase if available.
When I insert the CD and try to open the book, I get the "Check disc" message.
Remove the disc and reinsert it, making sure the label side is facing up.
Remove the disc from the CD-ROM drive and clean it with a soft dry cloth.
I am trying to find a Key Describer function.
The Scholar does not have a Key Describer function.
Can I start listening at any point in a multiple-CD book?
The first time you listen to a multiple CD book, you must insert the first CD before you can navigate to another section. After that, the machine's software will remember your last position in the book.
NOTE: If you insert a CD other than the one containing your last position in that multiple CD book, you will be prompted to insert the "correct CD." Please eject the incorrect CD and insert the correct CD in the CD-ROM drive. You may listen to books in any order. The Scholar will remember the last position of each book, up to 32 books.
How do I jump around in a multiple-CD book?
You can use the "Go To Page" function or navigate using next/previous functions within a set heading level.
