Sandie Rabinowitz, Karen Frezza and Charlotte Scheiner celebrate during
Volunteer Recognition Week.
February, 2002. The New Jersey unit of Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic (RFB&D) celebrated the contributions of its nearly 500 volunteers during Volunteer Recognition Week. The event was held the week of February 4-9, 2002 at the unit's recording studios in Princeton and West Windsor.
Volunteers who donated more than 100 hours during 2001, or have been involved with the organization for five, ten, 15, 20, 25 or 30 years or more were individually honored for their efforts.
RFB&D, a nonprofit headquartered in Princeton, is the nation's library of recorded educational texts for students who cannot effectively read standard print because of visual impairment, dyslexia or other physical disability. For over 44 years volunteers at RFB&D's New Jersey Unit have donated their time and talents to record texts. Volunteers also perform administrative, outreach and development functions for the New Jersey Unit. Nationally over 100,000 individuals make use of the organization's talking textbooks.
Volunteers donating over 300 hours were Dale Ashcroft, Phyllis Branin, Ann Dubin, Dot Messineo, Shirley Jenks and Michael Tchorni. Logging 200 or more hours were Jim Amick, Jerry Freedman, Karen Frezza, Mary Ann Fritzen, Carol Galuskin, Clif Giddings, Barbara Greene, Jean Gunkel, Bima Kelly, Milt Levin, Richard Mikovsky, Irv Rabinowitz, Sandie Rabinowitz, Charlotte Scheiner, Sandy Shapiro, Anne Shultes and Bob Timmerman.
