RFB&D Mourns the Death of Clif Giddings

Clif serves up his special dip at the
2008 Record-A-Thon

Clifford F. Giddings, 73, of West Windsor passed away Monday, April 12, 2010 at home. Born in East Dorset, VT, he lived in the Chicago area for 13 years before moving to West Windsor in 1975.

Mr. Giddings was graduated from Burr and Burton Academy in Manchester, VT, and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Vermont and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He also studied as a Fulbright Scholar at the Sorbonne in Paris as well as the University of Grenoble, France, and the Graduate Library School of the University of Chicago.

While in the Chicago area he was employed by the Newberry Library as reference librarian and bibliographer in historical linguistics, and by Scott, Foresman and Company as director of library services. During his career in Chicago, Mr. Giddings was a member of the Special Libraries Association, the Caxton Club (rare books and manuscripts) and the Executives Club of Chicago.

After moving to West Windsor he was employed by Albert E. Barrett, Inc. of Trenton, retiring in 1997. He was a member of the Associated General Contractors of New Jersey, the New Jersey Asphalt Pavement Association and the Fulbright Association, and a contributor to the Institute of International Education. He was listed in various editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, the East, and Finance and Industry. Mr. Giddings traveled extensively, was interested in antique furniture and enjoyed cooking and entertaining.

Since his retirement he was an active volunteer with Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic in Princeton. Son of the late Frederick D. and Natalie Abbott Giddings, brother of the late Katherine Pyser and long time companion of the late Albert E. Barrett Jr., he is survived by his sister Diana L. Giddings of East Dorset, VT.

Gathering will begin Friday, 7 p.m. at the M. William Murphy Funeral Home, 1863 Hamilton Ave., with the service at 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic, 20 Roszel Road, Princeton, NJ 08540.
