Record-A-Thon is an intensive (but fun!) weeklong event that occurs nationally among the organization in conjunction with National Volunteer Week in April each year. From April 20th - 25, 2009, the New Jersey Unit of Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic held its annual Record-A-Thon event. The purpose of the Record-A-Thon is threefold:
The theme of R-A-T 2009 is to celebrate New Jersey! 2009 marks the 10th anniversary of our Educational Outreach Center, which assists New Jersey educators to establish RFB&D's Learning Through Listening® programs. Our Professional Development Providers make site visits to train teachers and students in the effective use of our accessible textbooks and provide ongoing program support through classroom visits, training workshops, and professional development seminars. This year's event featured celebrity readers, public open houses, media coverage, and volunteer recruitment. For the first time, all monies that were raised for R-A-T were restricted to the programs and services that make RFB&D what it is: to get the right book to the right student at the right time.
